証印シールが貼られないケースがあります
日本に入国した外国人のパスポートには、通常「上陸許可証印（証印シール）」が貼られます。しかし、すべての入国者に必ずシールが貼られるわけではありません。特に、自動化ゲートを使用した場合や、中長期在留者として在留カードが交付されるケースでは、パスポートに証印シールが貼られていないことがあります。
Foreign nationals entering Japan usually receive a “landing permission seal” in their passport. However, not all travelers receive this seal. In particular, those who enter through automated gates or who are issued a residence card as mid-to-long term residents may find that no seal is affixed to their passport.
中長期在留者には在留カードで入国記録を管理
中長期在留者の場合、入国時に証印シールを省略し、代わりに在留カードに在留資格や在留期間などの情報が記載されます。このため、証印が貼られていないこと自体は制度上の不備ではなく、正当な手続きです。一方、短期滞在者や観光客など、在留カードを持たない人には、従来通り証印シールが貼付されます。
For mid-to-long term residents, the immigration officer may omit the seal because the relevant information—such as visa status and length of stay—is recorded on the residence card. Therefore, the absence of the seal is not a procedural mistake but a result of official handling. In contrast, short-term visitors and tourists without a residence card generally receive the landing seal as usual.
証印シールがないと免税購入ができない場合も
ただし、証印シールが貼られていないことが、思わぬ不利益につながることもあります。たとえば、日本での免税購入を希望する場合、販売店ではパスポート上の証印シールを確認して判断することが多く、シールがないと免税が認められないことがあります。
However, the absence of a landing seal can lead to unintended disadvantages. For example, when shopping tax-free in Japan, many retailers check for the landing seal in the passport as proof of recent entry. Without the seal, tax-free purchases may be refused.
証印が必要な場面では事前の対処を
このような場面に備えて、自動化ゲートを使用して入国した際には、税関を通過する前に係官に申し出て、証印シールを押してもらうことをおすすめします。また、船で入国した場合には「船舶観光上陸許可書」が交付されますが、これも証印シールと同様に取り扱われ、免税購入の判断材料として使用されることがあります。
To avoid such situations, travelers who enter via automated gates are strongly advised to request the seal from an immigration officer before passing through customs. If entering Japan by cruise ship, a “Provisional Landing Permit for Cruise Ship Visitors” is issued instead. This document functions similarly to the landing seal and may be used for tax-free shopping and other purposes requiring proof of entry.
